High quality healthcare is available either from within the Spanish state system or from the many foreign origin private clinics which have been established over the years to serve the ex-patriate populations of many European countries.

As with the UK, Spain has a public health system which provides free or low cost healthcare for those contributing to Spanish social security. The system also caters for retirees and includes those from other EU countries. There are no waiting lists and it is interesting to note that there are more than two and a half times as many doctors per head in Spain compared with the UK.

Private healthcare insurance can also be purchased much cheaper than in the UK and international healthcare organisations such as BUPA can be accessed via membership of its Spanish subsidiary company Sanitas.
